Good habits before and after every trip keep your electric truck safe, reliable, and ready for work. This chapter covers the essential checks you should make as a driver, along with the basics of EV and charger maintenance.
Alongside your standard pre-trip routine, make sure your EV is ready for the day:
Check SOC (State of Charge): Ensure you have enough range for your planned route.
Precondition while plugged in: Heat or cool the cab and battery before unplugging to save driving energy.
Check charging cable storage: Confirm the cable is in its holster and not left on the ground or in a pedestrian area, where it could be damaged or cause a trip hazard.
Fully power off: Shut the truck down completely.
Plug in if needed: Connect the truck so it is ready for the next shift.
Verify charging has started: Always confirm on the vehicle screen or charger display.
Report issues: Note and report any alerts, unusual messages, or performance concerns so they can be addressed quickly.
For EVs: Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations (OEM manual).
For chargers:
7Gen performs yearly preventive maintenance following OEM guidance to ensure charging infrastructure remains safe and reliable.
Cleaning: Charging units are water-resistant but should never be sprayed directly with water. If cleaning is needed, use a soft, damp cloth.
Support: Contact 7Gen if you have any questions regarding maintenance or charger care.

EVs Cost Less in Maintenance than diesel or gas vehicles
EVs have fewer moving parts and don’t require oil changes or spark plugs. Studies show EV owners spend about half as much on maintenance and repairs over the life of the vehicle.
Check your SOC (State of Charge) to make sure you have enough range, precondition the cab and battery while still plugged in to save energy during the trip, and confirm the charging cable is stored properly so it is not damaged or a tripping hazard.
Fully power off the truck, plug it in if needed, and verify on the screen that charging has started. This ensures the truck is ready for the next shift and prevents downtime.
Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s (OEM) recommendations for your truck, and rely on 7Gen or the charger OEM for charger maintenance. This keeps both the truck and the charging equipment safe, reliable, and in good condition.
